Lost childhood object
For our first week we were prompted to ask a fellow classmate about an object that use to cherish as a kid but then might've slipped through the cracks. I asked McKenna about her object and she mentioned this blanket that her dad says was her baby blanket and gave a couple different descriptions of it
-White Blanket
-not your normal baby blanket, large
-thin crochet
-never looked old
-always smelled like home or fresh laundry
From here I started to think of what I could use to get the knitted/crocheted effect and with a limited budget, what I did was is took some white felt and cut it into strips. It was a little tattered which didn't help but I was trying my best with what I had. Then I tied 4 stripes together to make a square that was about the size of a palm. My vision was to make this almost like a section of the blanket that she had lost. Then I tied the rest of the felt in a hatch pattern to recreate the knitted effect. Then the finally step of what I did was when she was telling me about her blanket, she mentioned how it smelt like laundry so I put it in a bag with the sent beads to have the square smell like laundry. Then I had my finally "finished" project:
I feel like my project definitely was not my best work because the felt torn a couple times when tying so there was a lot of gaps and it just wasn't what I was envision in my mind. I feel like if I had yarn then I could have tied a better pattern and it was also more difficult because I hand tied everything. The main thing I was proud of was that it smelt like fresh laundry but that didn't take very much effort. I think for next time using a different material is a must so that I can capture the effect a bit better and get a better new look to it.
