Measuring History: 91 years alive, 14 with you, and 1 missing farewell

For this piece, I recreated this tie that I made for my grandfather many many years ago and with it representing more of him than just a recreation. It is a final goodbye that I never got to have, I saw him March 1st and I never got to say a final "I love you" and then he passed away March 3rd. He knew I did but it was just the fact that I never got to say it.

There are layers to this piece, the first one being the tie itself. On the original tie, there is a verse but its hard to tell what it says. So as a substitute, I wrote down my grandpa's favorite verse (Jeremiah 17:7) 91 times which is how old he was when he passed away. The verse states "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord". I wrote it down the 91 times just for the 91years that he got to live.

The next representation is the watch I am wearing, it was a watch that my grandpa bought for me a long time ago. The watch died a couple years ago and I set the time to 3:03 so represent the date that he died, as the watch is a piece of him and its a reminder of him every time I wear it.

And the final part of the photo is the sweater I am wearing, it was a sweater that he use to own. I only wear it during special occasions or church because it is a formal looking sweater. It just reminds me of what he would always wear and of him in general

Overall this is me being able to live with him as a memory but also show that he is still very much in my life and in my mind after being gone for over 5 years now. He meant a lot to me and so it was nice being able to make something that represented him.
